Hey,
So has anyone out there head of or watched the DVD "What it Takes"? Basically, it is a documentary of four professional triathletes, which follows their journey for a year of training leading up to the World Championships in Kona.
I watched the DVD over the Christmas holidays, and I got to say it was kind of funny. Yes, the DVD shows how much they train, and it touches on the personal struggles that they have to work through during the year (IE. relationship struggles), but I mean come on..that is life! The whole time I watched the DVD I couldn't help but think (sarcastically)....This is what it really takes??? Ah, to have the time to go on "3 week hermit training camps" in Arizona, where I can seclude myself to ride my bike for 6 hours a day in the warm sun, and then go get a massage, and then go to the grocery store and pick out my healthiest food for the week???
Well, anyways, I really think a few age groupers out there should get together and make a DVD thats called "What it REALLY Takes!". I mean these pros have all the time in the world to fit their training in...that is all they do (o.k. they manage family, and sponsors obligations, but we age groupers all have families, and who wouldn't trade the headaches of having sponsors for the ones that come with their full time job???). I mean good for them (the pros) that they have the talent to achieve this status, but you can't tell me that the average age grouper who works 40 to 50+ hrs a week and still trains 10 - 15 hrs a week doesn't know more about what it really takes!
I am sure that there are many out there who can attest to using their lunch breaks at work to fit in a run, only to come home from a 12 or 14 hr work day to turn around and go to the pool....in light of days like this, I think it makes the challenges of the pro life look somewhat...enviable, perhaps...ordinary, for sure.
Thats my two cents.
