I think any date you pick will have there obstacles, so you just have to pick one that works for you.  It is the weekend between Mississauaga and Ottawa Marathons if that helps.

Sounds like fun, make sure you bring some apps into the store when they are ready.

It is the weekend after the Forest City Half, so don't know if I would want to do a 10K race.  If I wasn't up to it, I could possibly help out somewhere.  It's a long weekend - I don't know if that would attract or discourage runners.

Fred:

I think it is a great idea.  Bill and I would be happy to help, since William plays ball in Frankford.  I would like to run it, but I would be willing to help in anyway needed.

I know you had talked before about a road race, Fred, but what about the railbed that goes through Frankford?  It is just beautiful along some parts of it.  Only thing is, getting across the cross roads - we don't have to worry about this too much when trail running, but with a race, some people wouldn't want to have to wait for traffic.

  Paul ,Jane

I have a route in mind, start at Frankford arena go north to the bridge go over the bridge ,turn right go down under the bridge  on to RIVERSIDE PARKWAY (this is Glen Miller rd at one end and after it get to Frankford it is Riverside Parkway) down to Harrington rd turn left .Left again on Collins Rd.this road will wind north and come out on the FRANKFORD RD about 1km from the bridge then back to the arena . Hopefully we can use the arena or LIONS club washroom.
A note about Collins road it is a unserviced road, people live on most of this road but there is a section that would be considered cross-country NOT A TRAIL RUN.
Should be about 10km (plus or minus).

Hi, Fred;

(I tried this post a couple of days ago, but was unsuccessful somehow with my registration?)

I have been 'lurking' here for a couple of weeks, gaining some knowledge and reading all the advice on this board. You may be interested to know, Fred, that despite my reputation of a person with NO wheels whatsoever, I have recently taken up running!! Ha!!! I've been training with a Run/Walk program for about two weeks, and currently am 'up to' 6mins Running/1min Walking x 4, Run 2mins, for a total of 30 minutes!! Wootwoot!!! All my training has been indoors on a treadmill, but it has been a positive experience so far. Any advice from ANYONE to this Newbie Runner would be greatly appreciated. Trying right now to resist the urge to do more, for fear of injury.

At any rate, Fred, and the reason I began this post (I know, I know, it's not ALL about me  laugh) was to say that I would be happy to assist with your 10K run in May. Let me know if I can be of service in any way whatsoever!!

Hi to all!

GOOD FOR YOU GOOTY!
I have been running for only a year and a half and I started exactly the way you did, and all I can say is keep it up!  Don't be afraid to adventure outside, away from the treadmill.  I know it took me a long time to get the courage to do that.  Set your goals.  Applaud yourself for all your accomplishments, even if you think they are small.  THEY ARE NOT.

(Ooops Sorry Fred, I Hijacked your post, I'll support the Frankford run too!)   angel

Gooty -----Just a little thing, after you get to 20min easy running you will be able to jump to an 1  hour of running. It sounds impossible but that first 20min is the hardest.
Any help for the 10km  in May would be great, maybe you could help set up then go in the run.

Me? Run 10k? I dunno, Freddie. 10k seems a long ways away at this point!!!  rolleyes

Honestly, I'd be glad to help out though. Keep me posted.

And thanks to you & ShoppinShannon for your advice. Seems like there is so much to stay on top of, in order to avoid injury, overdoing it, etc. Slow & Steady, I guess for now!!

Hi Fred, my name is Marlene and I am a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Frankford. We have a new running club that started this year and in conjunction with that I too have been in the early stages of planning a run for the Riverfest weekend. Is your run a go for sure? If so, perhaps we could lend some help or at least some enthusiastic runners. If not, then I will go ahead with our plans. Just a thought-if you do go ahead would you consider adding a 5k as well for us "old folks" or for the new runners who would like a shorter distance?
Also, for anyone interested in running in a group, we meet on Tuesday nights at 7:00 pm at the church, 149 King Drive in Frankford. We have all levels of runners from "I don't think I can do this!" up to experienced marathoners. All are welcome to join us and the best part is it is free!!!! Just show up.
For Fred- please email me to let me know where you are in the planning stages and I can determine my plans from there. My email address should show up in my profile. Thanks.

Welcome Marlene.  It's nice to know that there is another running group close by   I see several runners both on my way to work and when I am out in the mornings running myself.  Maybe they are some from your group.

A 5k would be nice as well for Riverfest.  Might just draw more people. And if not already stated can I ask if it would be open to walkers as well.  (I am sure that I have heard this mentioned before, maybe by Paul.)   Anyways I remember when I first started being active the first thing I did after the PEC relay was go to Port Perry and walk 1/2 marathon.  I was very disappointed that the walkers weren't even acknowledged that year but really enjoyed the day and the company from my fellow walkers.  Walking events in conjunction with running events draws more people for sure.  After all, not all of us CAN run.
