Hey Gang, Me and a couple training partners are taking up this challenge. I can't take credit for it, I came across it on Slowtwitch. The rules are: 100 runs in 100 days! For a run to count, it must be at least 30 mins (can be as long as you want) You can bank/miss a day, but if you do 2 runs in 1 day (to make up for a miss) then they must be separated by an hour. The Challenge starts DEC 15, 2008 (this Monday). Any takers from the Tri & Run Gang???? Come on -you know you wanna Jon

I don't know if I would be up for this or not. But I did just want to say one thing -- aren't you a new Dad? Do you have TIME to do this?

As someone who is somewhat new to running (3yrs running whenever and however long i felt like that day) I was wondering if anyone thinks this would be too much. If not how would you or could you incorporate this challenge into training for a spring race? Training for my second half in the spring. The challenge here may not be the consecutive days in a row but the time of year the challenge is, Christmas - New years and March break. I applaud anyone who completes this challenge. Do you think they would include speedwalking through the mall carrying all your packages? Ha ha. Thanks.

I am training for the Peterborough half and the London full in May...don't know if I like the idea of running 30 min. on what would normally be my "rest" days. Sandy, what do you think? I love the idea of the challenge...something that might make me get my arse out running more than I am! (I can be very easily discouraged from a run...doesn't take much...snow, wind, laundry, you name it!)
I would love to see this challenge in the summer! anything to get me running June, July, and Aug....which I dread.

Happy to see some responses... Jane, yes I am a new dad and loving it! You'll be happy to know I have done very little in the way of training in the past month...but thats long enough. I knew these days of fatherhood would come, and thats why I have a treadmill in my basement, and my bike on a trainer Chatty feet - I am doing Ottawa in May (and Peterborough - only if its nice weather that week). The time of year is tough with those holidays, but as far as training goes its perfect. The idea for doing this now, is that it is the normal "off" season, which is a great time to build/do base work. Those 30' runs after a long day previous would just need to be done nice and easy. April - you could always make the effort and keep track - even a 95 out of 100 would be great and then you would have a bench mark for following years! respectable You know its hard to walk away from a challenge...thats how I got suckered into this! You know you wanna....

I think that if you are training for a half or in half shape already then you should be fine. I believe the rules say you can miss a day you just have to do a double somewhere in your week. A double consititutes two separate runs in one day, by the challenge rules it must be separated by 1 hour. Doubles are an excellent way to increase endurance while reducing injury. Go for a 30' easy run in the morning when you aren't quite awake (and who can't fit in 30' ) then later in the day when you're feeling more spry you can add a faster set of 30', maybe some intervals. Because you have some recovery time in between you aren't as likely to be running on no energy, dehydrated etc. Doubles then allow for that coveted day off while keeoing to the rules and spirit of the challenge. I say...this could be fun!

someone was wondering if Jon has time to do this...with a newborn. If you ask me, this is the BEST time to do it. I have three children and I found the first 3 months the easiest...(but only if you have good babies...no colic etc). All they do is sleep and eat!! And they don't crawl, or move from place to place...they are entirely portable, weigh next to nothing in a jogging stroller....this is the time to do it! I find as babies get older it gets harder...and then they hit the teen years and you're a taxi service!!!

Yes Jane you could do that. I believe (Jon will correct me if I'm wrong) that you do keep track yourself. Maybe add in some fessing up on here to keep you on track.
