Noticed in the Intell article last night that it's not recommended a person take water in these temperatures because it will freeze...I simply fill my water bottle with warm water.  (learned this lesson the hard way...took a nice cold bottle of Gatorade on a 10 mile run in -10 temps, had to get through the ice in the top of the bottle to get a drink!  And what I did drink was way too cold!!!) But I don't mind drinking my water a little warm...the first few chugs are warm but after that it's perfect.  In these temps it's not warm for long!

And depending on how long you run it will be frozen when you finish.

The longest and coldest run I've done was 12 miles in -15 and the warm water I packed never froze.  dont' get me wrong, it was COLD by the end, but not frozen.  But I guess 12 miles isn't a long run when you think about marathon training.  But the suggestion was just for average runs...nothing uber long or anything. .  But it's still a good option for those who want water on cold, cold days.  It works, trust me.
