I know I have read reference to salt tablets on this forum before, but couldn't find anything today when I was looking.  I know it is still there, I am just not looking in the right place.

When I was in the store a week or so ago, Nancy helped me find the NuuN tablets (that you suggested to me Sandy) to help replace lost electrolites when running without having to deal with the "stomache" issues of Gatorade (although I have discovered that I can handle G2 mixed 50/50 with water, but still don't like the calories).

At that same time, Nancy made comment to some salt tablets that (replaced?) salt as well as replaced electrolites.  She asked if I sweated a lot when running and at that time, I told her I didn't really think so.

I went for my "long" run this morning around 8:30.  It wasn't all that hot, but it was muggy.  Rain would have been refreshing.  Needless to say, I have discovered that when it is hot and muggy, I do sweat.  A lot.  I was SOAKED!  And after I was home for a while and had cooled down, I also discovered that my (lower) legs were COVERED with salt.  I could basically brush it off me.

Is this what salt tablets are for?  Should I be taking them?  If I understand correctly, they don't prevent losing salt, but replenish the system?

The time has come, I guess, for me to look at modern technology versus sticking with what worked in my former running life 20+ years ago.  Since January I have gone from being afraid to run outside to preferring to run outside (I discovered I LOVED running in the snow ... storms and cold and all) and more recently (now that summer seems to have arrived), from hating running in the heat to getting used to running in it.

I know, Sandy.  You told me I would!

salt tabs have literally taken me from HATING to summer running to being able to tolerate it...and tolerate it well. but I'm afraid I'll never love it!

I'll never love running in the summer heat either, Chattyfeet.
I find electrolites in the water make it easier for me, but if salt tabs will make the heat even more bearable, I've got to at least try them!
