Was just checking the ironman website out and saw that in 2010 Syracuse is going to have a 70.3 distance on Sept 19. Looks intersesting (for all those not making the big plunge at Ironman)

Really..Syracuse.  That will be a popular event.  Funny thing is it is on the same weekend as Fall Classic, Sandbanks, Hospital Run, Army Run....etc.etc.  You doing it Janet?

Thinking about it, but I know that I''m working so I would have to take holidays for it.

I don't think they really care too much about the date being the same as any of our local runs :) I do find it interesting that 3 local runs schedule their races on the exact same weekend. You'd think that someone might think about scheduling the 5 or 10k races a week prior to the half as a tune up race so that everyone is not forced to choose one or the other.

From what I've read on another forum, the bike course in Syracuse should be reasonably challenging and on some nice roads and the run is flat and fast. I also heard that there may be prize money for age group athletes. In terms of scheduling, one comment that I read was that the WTC seems to make sure that none of the US races conflict too much (ie. Rhode Island, Steelhead, Timberman, etc. being nicely spaced out) but they don't have a problem allowing a new one in the same general area of the continent as our Canadian 70.3 in Muskoka.
