Thank-you for a great race! The now-famous #326 ("The Most Lost FatAss" and "The Slowest Fat Ass") and I work together at 8 Air Control and Communications Squadron. I can't tell you what his name is, but his initials are Nick Cooley. Sorry Nick, anyway, it's written above! In these circumstances I feel I must share a .jpg of our squadron crest:

Poor Nick! We saw him as we were trudging up the back of the ski hill and he was flying through the 7.5K route for a second time and we noticed the 25K bib on him. At first we thought that he was a really really speeding runner. Then he started tell us where he went and I think he turned left at the end of that power line road instead of going to the right. If he got lost at that corner, well who knows where else he ran throughout that trail race??? Poor guy -- probably ran further than anyone. But he really cleaned up on the prizes! Hmmmm..... do you think anyone will believe it next year when I get lost??

Thanks again to theRD and all the volunteers for a great day. I had no idea that all those trails were there! does any one have a elevation profile? I saw alot of garmins out thtere I was hopingsomeone could get the info for me so Icould use it for some trailing for a 100miler I'm doing.
Thanks Again Keith Iskiw

G'day Keith,
I have the polar .hrm file that has the barometric elevation profile(I find more accurate then gps) I also have the .gpx file of the course without the elevation data. I can pm them to you if you want. I found the gps lost signal occasionally especially when shadowed by the the Bata Ski speed bump. There was about 515m of climbing over the 25km course.
Peace Peter

Thanks for the info Peter. The elevation is what I'm looking for so that is great. I was hoping to get more hill running in as the race I'm training for is really hilly or more correctly speaking mountain-y-ish-ness-ous. I handn't really trained for the race and wasn't expecting that kind of terrian but really loved it. Just another reason to go to triandrun and a training run. If you could email the info to me @ kiskiw@yahoo.comthanks Keith PS great race Peter it was fun watching you roll away from on the first 7.5km loop you looked very strong.

Thanks Peter. I was indeed the green coat. I'm having some computer issues right now so I'm thanking you via the forum. I hate Vista so much can't wait for my windows 7 to get here! The race was great I wish I had know a bit about the course ahead of time would have made me less causious at the start but started to really roll in the last 7.5km but by that time you were long gone. It was hard on the hills as my legs haven't really bounced back as well as I had hope from Haliburton this year, althought the raod speed is there hills have always been a weak point so will work on that over the winter
Cheers Keith

My GPS gave 937m total ascent. 285/419/233 for the 3 legs. 1 & 2 should have been the same so take it with a grain of salt.

Keith,
My legs are still useless appendages, they haven't been so sore after a race in years.
Neil,
I've always found GPS altitude info and distance for that matter in the trails and very hilly terrain to be quite inaccurate. Even looking at the profile you posted the beginning and end 7.5km should look almost identical and they certainly don't. That's why I like barometric readings for altitude, I can live with the inaccuracy of Gps distance and it's seems good for open routes with less dramatic elevation changes. My two cents anyways.
Peace Peter

Yeah I don't really like useing garmins and stuff, my timex is all I really use although I'm interested in the barometric altimeter might be cool to have on my romps through the 'dacks and frontanac. Which ones you guy recommend?

Keith,
If you want elevation info, barometry is better than GPS because the satellites orbit around the earth's centre of mass and the earth is constantly changing shape. Pressure can also change over longer runs and you can get local effects when the wind is perpendicular to a hill but the potential error is less. I got the Garmin because I wanted HR, pace and accurate distance covered. Plus the google earth export is cool.

Thats pretty cool, I do most of my work outs by feel and have some sections of trail that are measured so I do most of the hard stuff on that the rest is long even paced running for time. I've been looking and high gear hassome cool watchs Sunnto (sp?) also has some cool stuff. Maybe Santa will hear my pleas!!!!

Keith,
I have used the Garmin, Suunto T6c(which you can use a GPS pod, foot pod, and bike pod, for speed and distance)and uses barometric elevation, and the Polar Rs800cx (which you can use a GPS sensor, stride sensor, and bike speed/cadence/power sensors) and it uses barometric elevation. The Polar has more features and the software is much better then the rest. You can also export data to the data to google earth. So currently it is my toy of choice.
As far as the barometric pressure changing during a run/ride it can mess with the data a bit but if you start and finish at the same point it is easily correctible in the software.
The polar can be a little techie and tougher to get started on. The suunto is pretty user friendly but doesn't offer as many "workout" features.
Garmin is pretty straight forward and easy to use. Just a little on the clunky sizewise though the newer units are getting better and if you were wanting to use it for really long stuff the memory/battery life becomes a issue.
Especially for 100miler type stuff
Hope this helps.
Peace Peter
