yeah its really a question of what you want. It seems that there are models out there that have great scaleability (sp?) with regards to add-ons really was hoping for a basic watch wit hthe feature on top nothing more really, HR monitors are pretty cool and I do hace and old garmin a 101 that i use for tempos or scouting new places to tempo but as soon as its mapped I los it all together. There very handy! Thanks for all the input, I think I may have hijacked this thread though maybe I should jsut start a new one somewhere else and pick all your brains about running. I figure theres tons of knowledge out there sometimes it as easy as asking cheers Keith

Anyone out there remember when you just wore a watch (maybe) & the statement "that was a mother of a hill" was internationally understood? I thought I was one for all the toys, but you boys are definitely tops in the geek squad.

Keith,
I think you're the one we should be asking for advice since you're the 100miler. Congrats btw on an excellant 3rd place 19hr finish. I've always wanted to do one but so far have been too "afraid" of the distance, and all the training involved.
Peace Peter

thanks Peter, yeah it was a great race I'm hoping for some faster times in the future with some work. Need to really focus on my strength got a fair amount of speed but it gets sapped when hills are involved so over the winter build a big base and then head for the hills for some arthur-esq hill running I guess. Plus sometimes the people with the most knowledge are not always the podium dwellers!

...Peter don't be afraid of the distance I've only been running for maybe 5 years now and the transition is easy just add some long runs in they don't have to be fast just easy time on your feet, plus walking is considered a race strategy for most ultrarunners so its good to go for some hikes to get your power walking in. There are tones of races on the OUSER site maybe a 50km or a 50miler to start. I'll bring a Guinness for you at the finish! promise!
Cheers Keith

I've been lurking the OUSER website for a few years now, and probably do a 50 before too long and then if all goes well a 100. Thanks for the Guinness offer, maybe a stretcher would be more appropriate. :)
Peace Peter

Sometimes "those that can't do, teach!" But. I am all for knowledge from people who have "been there, done that"!!

This weekend is a no go for me but maybe something next Saturday morning? Lots of nice trails out my way if you're interested, I'm near the Northumberland Forest it can be sandy in spots, so it really doesn't matter how much it rains still lots of good trails. I don't typically run fast but I'd be up for 2-3hr run through the woods.
There might be the odd bump so you'd do a little hill practise.
Peace Peter
