advice on my treadmill
«
on:

I started my garmin at the same time as my TM. At the start they were less than half a second apart
@ 15 mins TM was 6 seconds faster
@30 mins 11 sec.
@40 mins 16 sec.
I'm wondering if this is a big deal and if my distances and paces are wrong too? And would the cost of calibrating it be worth it?
Thanks
April

G'day April,
I'm very anal about that sort of thing but 16 sec difference over 40min is not a very big deal, and definately won't affect your training. I would think the Garmin would be the most accurate. I've heard that treadmills can be notoriously inaccurate, and I've heard also that Garmins as a timing device are amazingly accurate. (but as a instantaneous speed/pace measuring device has a bit to be desired though it's usually the Gps most complain about so on the treadmill it wouldn't be a factor.) The foot pods are quite accurate once calibrated as long as you don't change your stride much throughout the run.
I find that on the treadmill the extreme ends of speed whether the slow end or the fast end the treadmill speed and therefore distance differs from my Suunto T6c and footpod. During the middle range they are spot on as long as I don't change the incline too much. But that should be the case as this is where I calibrated the footpod.
Hope this helps.
Peace
Peter
