Had a good 2nd short run, proper stretching before and after, and ice after, feeling terrific but not going to push it, slow and steady!

Had my longer run with the group last night, in that heat! We were going to run over the Bay Bridge and back, but the instructor didn't want to push us too much in the warm weather. So we did a lap around the dog park (East Zwicks) and up over that big grassy hill which I wonder if it was easier than the Bay Bridge..lol! Then repeat if you were able...I did, I really wondered if my knees would like that bumpy hill, but they were ok and upon arriving home a good icing, freezing swim and meal and I am still OK this morning.
Happy as a clam! Nancy

Doing well, been stretching and icing and the aches have greatly dissipated.
However, a new issue... after researching a bit I am thinking my patella is involved... after a run, even towards the end of a run it feels like my right knee is loose, as in something is not quite sitting where it needs to be, not really any pain involved, just like the components inside are rattling around in there..but obviously a sign of my body telling me something. Then after, only while going up stairs does it hurt a tiny bit, or if I make a sudden turn, it feels inside the knee like things are loose... rattling around in there... I hope this makes sense.. I am wondering if I need some support, a wrap? I might try that. If it feels rattly, I will cut way back on runs and allow it to settle and work on strength training.
Is this one in your catalogue Mike?

My vote is still too much too soon. Tired muscles etc. don't support properly, if you consitently ramp up your effort beyond what you've been doing without the proper rest you're gonna get hurt. There are a few "rules of thumb". The first is no more than 10 percent increase in total weekly mileage. The second is 3 weeks on, 1 week rest. When we say rest, we mean really, really, really easy (about 1/3 of your last week's mileage, very slow) That means if track work, or hill work aren't part of your daily routine, they definately aren't during a rest week. As for the wrap, if you need to wrap it, stop running. Wait for it to heal. Do other things that don't put stress on the knee. Work on your swimming.
Good luck.
Mike

Well that is likely what the knee is telling me then, tired muscles don't support well, that is what it feels like. It was much better yesterday and fine today but I did skip my run, and choose a 5km walk instead, which my body is used to, walked a ton for years, and some upper body weights.
Heading to a Jays game and some down time in the city this weekend so I will just take in walking/sightseeing and swimming and skip run #2 also, a full week off.
Thanks Mike.

Went a full week, no runs. Ran last night, only 4k, slower than normal, (too much of the good stuff over the weekend the reason for that I believe..) felt good to get a run in and no stopping or feeling like I needed to stop. A bit achy this morning but improved for sure.
Paying more attention to what my body is telling me.

Thanks Kate. I am betting it is hard discipline to master... might take me a bit but I will keep plugging away and try to go at this in a way my body can handle. Seems its true, our bodies and our minds are two separate entities at times.

SO happy - completed another 5k with my run group last night and had NO pain, none, it was hot and not the best run, but no stopping and no pain, plus no pain this morning on stairs, or turning/twisting. Won't push it, but will try a 2nd run late Thurs or early Fri and see how that goes. Loving my Garmin gadget too!
