When I got ready to set out for my Sunday run this morning, I discovered that my Garmin seems to have "frozen"  at 6:27 a.m.  I've only had it a couple of months.   sad

Anybody else had a similar issue?

I was going to try and see if I let the battery totally die and then re-charge it if this remedies the situation.  Although the screen is "frozen" showing the battery life (@ 96%) with the time in small digits under it.

Or ... since I've only had it for two months, should I contact Garmin and send it in for repair / replacement?

G'day Kate,

You didn't mention which model of Garmin you had. So here are the Garmin resets I have on file.
You will likely lose all data. It's always a good idea to make sure you have the lastest firmware for the unit as they "frequently" update it on the Garmin website.

Garmin Forerunner 101/201/301 Soft Reset instructions
Turn the unit off. If you cannot turn it off, due to a "lock up", leave the system the drain the battery.
With the unit "OFF"
Press and keep holding the "MODE" button
Press and keep holding the "POWER" button
Release the "POWER" button
Release the "MODE" button
The unit will ask if you are sure you want to perform a full reset (you will loose all stored data)
Reply by pressing "ENTER" button.
The unit has now been reset. You now need to enter your Garmin Forerunner personal data.

Garmin Forerunner 205 and 305 reset
System Reset - resetting a Garmin Forerunner 205/305
For Garmin Forerunner 101/201/301 reset, please click the link
This procedure should be tried before returning a unit to BHIP Ltd. (garmin GPS / HRM returns procedure)
Also, please ensure you are running the very latest version of unit software available. Check this at www.garmin.com, then outdoor products, then forerunner 205/305, then downloads and upgrades.
"To power the unit back on, press the "Mode" and "Reset" buttons at the same time. Let go of those two buttons, press the power button, and the unit will turn back on."
If the unit is no longer displaying maps or lap data in the PC downloaded history ....perform a reset (as above) AFTER deleting all the Garmin HISTORY. This is done on the unit by navigating through HISTORY to "DELETE ALL" ---> now perform a soft reset.

Peace
Peter

Peter ~ I have a Garmin Forerunner 405.  It is only a couple of months old so I hope my Garmin files are up to date.  I was away for a couple of days and noticed that when I got home last night, the lens was totally blank.  No time, no battery life, nothing.  And nothing happened when I tried to touch the bezel area (time/date).

I have plugged the Garmin into the charger today and it immediately showed 0% battery life and charging.  And the correct time in smaller digits underneath.  I am hoping this is a good sign!

Thank you very much for your feedback.  I will let you know how it goes.

My Garmin charged and I had a successful run with it yesterday.

So I am not sure exactly what happened (power surge when charging?), but it seems to be ok now.

Thanks for your help!

Kate,

Even though it's new I'd still check for firmware updates from the Garmin website. You never know how long it was in the box, and they are always improving functionality by providing new firmware. (There was actually a new 310xt update to improve tracking while swimming for example) The process is usually quick simple and painless. I'd give that a try first, likely that's what they ask you to do anyways.

Peace

Thanks Peter.
Went on the Garmin Website this morning just to make sure.
My software is up to date.  So at least when they ask, I can answer accordingly.
As today is an American holiday, I will call Garmin support tomorrow and see what they want me to do.
Have a great day!
