Grab one and tuck it in the back of your sports bra around the nap of your neck. Under the hat works as well. Replace it at the next sponge station.

Am I the only one who read this and is visualizing Mike tucking it in the back of his sports bra?

I am just wondering exactly where Mike will put his???? Heather and I started carrying our own. I think this happened after we saw the volunteers at a race picking them up off the road and re-using them. We tuck a sponge between our fuel belt and body and it is right there when you need it. Works good even on a long run in the summer when you can pour some water over the sponge and wipe your face, back of your neck. Saves pouring water over your head, which sometimes will end up in your shoes. However, make sure you soak it with water first before you head out, or you will end up wasting a lot of water trying to get it wet initially. I buy them by the ten pack at Cdn Tire. Make sure you buy ones that don't have cleaner in them. I made this mistake once....

You will find races in the summer that will provide them. But not every race will. So when in doubt, bring your own. It is kind of like the fuel thing. I am thinking we may be needing those sponges tonight.

I had totally forgotten about sponges. I used kleenex on the weekend cause boy it was hot and I was sweating. I bought some sponges and did use them last night as well as let my class know of their benefits. Thanks Jane for the reminder. There is a race in Lindsay that has been known for handing out wet towels at the end of the race. The first year I did the Lindsay Milk Run it was very hot and the towel just felt wonderful when I was done.

A couple of years ago when I played ball hockey in this heat, we kept frozen washclothes to help cool off. They were wonderful (although I can't think of how to keep them frozen while running).
