Have you ever thought about doing a Triathlon or Duathlon but couldn?t decide on one to do?  Sunday July 11 the second edition of the Quinte Triathlon and Duathlon will be held in Batawa.  With three races to choose from you can try the sprint triathlon which consists of a 750m swim in the Trent River, 20k bike from Batawa up Stockdale Road and back and finishing with a 5k flat run around the hamlet of Batawa.  The sprint Duathlon replaces the opening swim with a 2k run and the Olympic distance triathlon begins with a 1500m swim, then a 40k bike and finishes with a 10k run.
The swim will be a counter clockwise out and back in the Trent River. The water is clear, clean and warm.   The bike route....is challenging.  With a significant hill in the first kilometre then onto Stockdale Road North which is rolling for about 5k then flattens out.  The run course is flat (really) and a 2.5k loop so yes if you are doing the Olympic it is 4 times around. The great thing about that is you'll be very familiar with the route by your fourth lap AND your spectators can see and encourage you numerous times!
After completing the race you will receive a tri towel, will be treated to a free massage, and treats by Taste of Country.  For more information visit http://www.triandrunsports.com/QuinteTri.pdf or call Tri & Run Sports at 613-392-7752 and to register go to http://www.eventsonline.ca/events/quinte_tri/.

On June 18 Steve Ally of Trenton ran the 50th Mt. Washington race.  Racing 7.6 miles (12.2k) up the face of Mt Washington the course rises 4650 vertical feet and has an average grade of 11.5% with sections reaching 18% and in the last 50 meters peaking at 22%.  With a time limit of 3 hours 2 minutes, Ally completed the race in a blistering 1:39:07 placing him 209 out of 662 participants, 33 out of 93 in his age group.
The Perth World Record Kilt Race was conceived as a way to break the world record of just under 200 runners all wearing a kilt and running 8k as well as celebrating the 800th Anniversary of Perth Scotland.  With modest expectations race organizers originally set the limit at 200 runners who would receive a kilt with their entry.  When those spots filled quickly they opened it up to the first 500 runners.  Eventually 1057 runners would participate in the record smashing run.  Locals who participated were; Don Dorval (40:29), Paige Harding (45:08), Sandy Hill (42:28), Carrie Salsbury (48:07), Angela Lisk (1:05:48), Lisa Brooks (48:31), Dave Rice (53:38), Kathy rice (48:49), Michael Sniderhan (1:07:07), David Baker (38:52), Jane Baker (1:04:38), Laura Cassidy (53:46), Maureen march (1:05:49), and Colin Lake (44:52).
In the Barry?s Bay Triathlon (750/32/8) Jesse McInroy finished in 2:33:36, Jennifer Freymond in 2:12:49 and Celine Griffin raced in 1:57:03 and Kim Sutherland completed the Duathlon (2.2/32/8) in 2:10:34.  Hannah Farrell raced the Lindsay Kids of Steel 10-11 age group in 41:25.

I so wish I could be there to see this event!  It sounds great, and I've always wanted to watch a tri.  Maybe next year I'll compete!

Good luck to everyone!
