I want to register for the Fat Ass this year, but was wondering if it's possible to switch distances on race day?  I've never done trail running before, so I'm thinking I had better be conservative in the distance I choose, but I just might change my mind come November.

The staff at Tri & Run told me last year (and this year too) that I could switch distances for the Fat Ass if I needed to.

Not sure that they wouldn't appreciate a little bit of notice versus being told on race day, but they are very flexible.

Hope this helps!

Just read this: You may change your distance up until race time but PLEASE tell us so we are not having to mess around with results or trying to find you in the woods.

Trust me ... you don't want them trying to find you in the woods.  This is one of those races where you REALLY want to make sure you keep somebody in sight in front of you so you don't get lost.  Part of what makes it SO FUN!!

Or just come out for some of the trail runs in the fall then you will get to know the course. And it's tons of fun!

I've never done a trail run before, and it's on my list of to-dos for sure!  After the PEC half (my first) I think I'll venture out there for the group runs and see what it's all about.  I'm excited about the prospect of getting some trail running shoes!!

Thanks for finding that excerpt from the Fat Ass site Nancy, I appreciate it!

No.  You will understand after but you do NOT buy NEW shoes for the Fat Ass.  You wear your OLDEST pair of decent running shoes that you have in your closet with the understanding that you will never wear them again.
'Nuff said.

I have to admit Sandy.  I was just thinking this morning that I might have to come see you about getting a pair of trail shoes.  Especially since I am seriously thinking about doing some trail running with the group this year before the event.

One thing to remember on the front part of the run (7.5K) is if you DO get lost, look for the hydro wires.  They are pretty easy to see.  If you follow them to the east, you will end up at Hwy 33.   wink

On the 10K part, north of Perry Drive, you are on your own.   laugh  Although eventually you either hit Hwy 33, Stockdale Road, Frankford, or Perry Drive again.

Really, you will eventually find your way to SOMETHING recognizable.

It helps if you come out in the fall and get to know the trails.

Hey, I just noticed the ticker above, are the spaces really filling up, as in almost gone???? I've thought about this, it sounds like a hoot. I think 89 days away is enough time to make sure I am in shape. Another month doing what my therapist says then hopefully trail runs to see where I stand.

Can you put me in for the 7.5k? Please and thanks and I will stop by to pay soon.
